Panasonic Lumix TZ80 4k photo Gear Review
The team over at Lumix UK have sent me one of their latest bit of kit, the Panasonic Lumix TZ80 for a product review.
4K is the buzz word in photography and video at the moment and I was interested in giving the Lumix TZ80 a test run on my recent trip to Finland.
The Lumix TZ80 has a 4K photo feature built into the camera which makes it a fully featured 4K ready camera.
4K photo and video feature
(Using 4K photo to capture that perfect shot.)
If you would like to read more in depth about how to capture 4K photo with the Panasonic Lumix range, I do have a step by step walk through guide. Please feel free to read my other post: Capturing Snow in 4K with the Lumix TZ80.
Shoot video in 4K
(Example footage shot on the Lumix TZ80)
The Panasonic Lumix TZ80 has a built in 4K video with autofocus. You can touch the screen whilst filming to focus more on an area you wish to capture.
The sound quality is not bad, I picked a busy road to film by to test the background noise.
I didn’t use a tripod for this shot and it has some built in stabilization. Overall, not a bad point and shoot video camera to have handy in your pocket.
Unboxing the Lumix TZ80
(Pretty basic packaging but not a basic camera.)
This is a base entry 4K Photo camera which is part of the Panasonic Lumix range and comes with an affordable price tag.
For base entry pricing, don’t expect a jaw dropping unboxing.
No SD card (let’s face it, who actually uses the SD card in the box anyway?)
No battery charging block (you know those bulky cradle chargers which are a pain to travel with?).
Comes with a USB cable and UK USB power adapter.
To be honest, you can charge the Lumix TZ80 off your Laptop, or other USB chargers such as the one you use for your phone.
Charging made simple for travellers.
What you do get in the box is the camera, that’s the most important part.
(It’s a very stylish, well designed, well built compact camera.)
To be honest, I’d rather pay less and have a less impressive box opening.
It’s the camera which is the main star of the show and boy does it shine!
Oh, of course, I forgot, it does also come with a little hand strap to attach to the camera. Perfect for clumsy people like me who have a tendency to drop things.
They have you covered!
Zoom lens feature
(The Lumix TZ80 has a 30x optical and 60x intelligent zoom feature)
The Lumix TZ80 has a pretty powerful zoom feature for a compact camera. Built in 30x optical and 60x intelligent zoom. As you can see from the above photo you can zoom in rather well without affecting the quality.
I was standing across the street from some distance and by using the zooming feature I was able to still take a great photo without affecting the quality of the picture.
Panoramic burst mode
(Click on the above image to see the full effect in Flickr.)
Have to say, I’m very impressed with this feature. Rather than taking a few shots it takes loads of burst shots, sort of like a machine gun.
It takes loads of photos, then patches them up to create a high-quality Panoramic photo, the quality speaks for itself.
A selection of photos from around Vaasa, Finland.
Captured a selection of photos on the Lumix TZ80 to show you some examples.
Impressive for a compact camera. Good quality photos in high light and low light environments.
I like that you can access all the functions easy by using the touch screen feature of the screen as well as having an optional viewfinder to help you capture a better picture.
4k photo selfie test
Pretty good for selfies, best to buy a tripod such as a Gorillapod Joby grip tight to give you some added extra stability and grip to take more steady shots such as selfies.
Final verdict on the Panasonic Lumix TZ80
For a compact camera, the TZ80 is a powerful, mighty camera that packs a lot of features and comfortably fits into your pocket.
For the price its also nicely placed as a great entry model 4K photo and video camera.
I’ve enjoyed shooting video on the Lumiz TZ80 and found the quality of the recording to be top notch, especially using the auto focus feature and touch focus feature, was very easy to use indeed.
The zoom feature for its size is extremely handy when you need it in such situations as capturing birds from a distance and does come in handy without the need of an expensive DSLR camera and zoom lens.
For a compact, you’re looking at investing int a top bit of kit and I’ve nothing but praise for its easy to use touch screen features, it’s not too complicated to use.
If you’re not a fan of DSLR’s and looking for an easy point and shoot camera that fits into your pocket with built-in 4K features, then the Panasonic Lumix TZ80 is the camera that I would recommend buying.
