About Travel Dave
Hello, my Name is Dave Brett, I’m 30 years old and I was born and raised in the city of London in the United Kingdom. Travelled to over 80 countries, studied and lived in Finland, Wales and The Netherlands worked and lived in Singapore, Switzerland and the USA and this has all been made possible by being frugal and sticking to a backpackers budget. I have no plans of stopping any time soon.
How my Travels started
At 15 years old I started my journey into solo travel. I don’t have a typical story, such as quitting a 9 to 5 job or selling everything to chase a dream. I was simply a young adult that wanted to go on an adventure and see the world.

I used all of my childhood savings to run away to Finland Visiting a handful of friends I met on a Summer scout camp. At the end of this trip, after 5 weeks of exploring Finland and staying with host families along the way, I had discovered what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and that was to explore the world.
Finland had opened its culture up to me in so many ways and I embraced it. I thought to myself if this is just one country, then surely the rest of the world is going to be incredible. Over 10 years later I’m still exploring and still have a desire to travel the globe.

I often look back to this moment of my life and think I must have been crazy, Not a typical “How I started travelling” story, but we all have to start somewhere.
I started to Travel blog back in 2005 as a hobby Due to an agreement with my mum.
Being 16 at the time, travelling solo was out of the question, I had the desire to do it, but my Mum was not happy with me travelling alone around Scandinavia.
The agreement was, I could travel solo as long as I kept my mum up-to-date daily with what I was getting up to (she didn’t like the running away idea anymore)
It was either start travel blogging or not going on the trip at all, I chose travel blogging and TravelDave.co.uk was Born!
Travel Dave from the start was about my personal journey and travel tails.
It wasn’t until 2010 that I decided to turn travel Dave from a way of sharing my personal diary-style travels with my friends and family into a travel resource for like-minded travellers seeking helpful advice for their own Budget backpacking adventures.

Currently, I live a nomadic, location independent lifestyle which allows me to move anywhere around the world and freely go wherever I wish.
I’m extremely mobile and never have a set location. I sold all my possessions some years ago and travel with a hand luggage sized backpack that holds everything I own.
I like to do a mixture of backpacking over a set period of times to multiple destinations using Travel Hacking techniques. When I need to stop travelling for a little I settle in a location for a set period of time calling it a temporary home until I start travelling again.
All I need to blog is Wifi and coffee which can be found all over the world (very handy). I plan on living this lifestyle until 2019 when I hope to settle down in Finland, somewhere (that’s the dream!).
If you would like to learn more about living location independently, working remotely and setting up an online business, I’ve recently written a book about how to make this lifestyle possible, Called: Digital Nomad on the Amazon Kindle and in print, feel free to check it out.
