Devon is home to four major cities: Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay and Bideford.

Devon is also easily accessible from London with frequent train journeys to Exeter taking only around two to three hours, making Devon a perfect location for a weekend getaway.

Devon has some stunning coastal hikes, areas of outstanding natural beauty, stunning beaches and picturesque landscapes.

Weather-wise, Devon can be just as lovely as other European destinations in the summer, so why not make the most of what’s on your doorstep in England?

Stay at a Classic Cottage along the coast of Devon

Located on the English Riviera, close to Torquay is the Babbacombe Model Village.

I’m a big fan of model villages and this is a wonderful example of one worth visiting as the attention to detail is incredible.

It’s considered to be one of Europe’s Premier Model Villages.

Feel like a giant for the day and explore the miniature village along with its very own miniature railway.

The village also boasts one of Torquay’s most beautiful gardens.

Head out on a charming walk around Exeter Quay

On a visit to the city of Exeter, enjoy a charming walk around Exeter Quay.

Also known as Exeter Quayside, the Quay walk will take you along the River Exe and then towards the Exeter Ship Canal.

The area was first used as a shipping port when a ledge made of sandstone was used to unload the ships for overseas traders.

Be sure to stop off along the way at one of the riverside cafes.

I can highly recommend Mango’s cafe & bar which do an incredible Devonshire cream tea experience.

Remember to put the jam on top of the cream in this part of England!

The Exeter Quay is no longer used for the shipping trade, making it a perfect spot for a quayside leisurely walk.

Enjoy some watersports activities on Exmouth Beach

If you’re looking for a spot of sunbathing in Devon, then be sure to head to Exmouth Beach which has two miles of golden sand.

With incredible rock pools to explore as well, it’s a paradise for holidaymakers.

Exmouth Beach is hot spot for trying many watersport activities such as surfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing, kite surfing, kayaking and standup paddleboarding.

Visit Coleton Fishacre for a classic cream tea experience

Located near Kingswear in Devon is the Coleton Fishacre, which is a property consisting of a garden and a house in the Arts and Crafts style.

The property has been well looked after by the National Trust since 1982.

Be sure to stop by Café Coleton to enjoy a classic Devonshire cream tea experience.

Visit the Royal Albert Memorial museum

The Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery is located in Exeter, Devon.

On display at the museum is a large and diverse collection of zoology, anthropology, fine art, local and overseas archaeology, and well as geology displays.

Loads of fun for the whole family to enjoy and a great visitor attraction to stop off at whilst in Exeter.

Hike along the Jurassic Coast in East Devon

The Jurassic Coast is England’s only Natural World Heritage Site and starts in Exmouth, East Devon, and will take you 95 miles along the coastline towards Dorset.

It was designated its title by UNESCO in 2001 due to its large selection of rocks, fossils and landforms.

Hike along these incredible coastline paths with stunning views of the beaches that follow along the route.

And remember to keep a lookout for dinosaur fossils as you follow the Jurassic Coast path.
