Tips on getting Airline Food on your next flight
Love it or hate it Airline food is a thing, if you happen to be a backpacker on a budget this can be a great way of filling up on free food before you arrive.
It’s important to fuel up on free airline food before you arrive so you don’t have to purchase Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner when you reach the location.
After all, you’ve paid for the flight so make the most out of it!
Every Dollar helps when you’re a backpacker on a budget!
(I’m a big fan of airline food for some crazy reason, I don’t mind it at all)
Unlike budget airlines most economy long haul routes include free food and beverages and in some cases free alcohol too, happy days!
If you want to find out in advance what your flight might be serving, you can always check out Airlines meals which is a community run website where travellers upload dishes served on each flight. You can search your airline and see what airline food you might get.
You can also check your booking directly on the airlines website and request any special dietary dishes which you might require. You can also do this if you fancy getting your meal first before anyone else as special dishes are often served first.
If you plan on sleeping during your flight, be sure to ask the cabin crew politely if they don’t mind waking you up when the airline food comes around to make sure you don’t miss it. Etihad airways supply eye masks that have two sides, one of them says: “wake me up when food is coming” which makes this easier.
Bonus Tips: It’s ok to be cheeky and ask cabin crew for more drinks and snacks during the flight, be nice and polite and they will help you out to the best of their ability. Normally I don’t like to ask them from my seat and sneak in the back during the flight to ask them directly, that way they don’t mind filling your pockets with what they have left.
If your lucky to be flying with Qantas they even have a Snack area at the back of their A380 where you can snack to your heart’s content unlimited, enjoy your next airline meal and happy travels!
