5 reasons why the Airbus A380 is awesome for Backpackers

When It comes to flying, I’m a bit of an aviation nerd, I just love the whole flying experience. The one thing on my Aviation to-do list was to get a chance to fly on the new Airbus A380. Lucky for me, I managed to make it happen flying with Qantas on their Melbourne to Singapore route.

What makes the A380 so great anyway?

Its the worlds largest commercial jet, pretty much stacking two aircrafts on top of each other. It seats around 450 passengers which is rather impressive. But having more passengers on board doesn’t mean comfort has taken a back seat either, as it hosts a lot of extra’s on-board compared to other aircrafts.

Here are my top 5 reasons why I enjoyed flying on an A380

1. Lots of leg room

Being a bigger aircraft they have made sure that the design has allowed everyone a nice amount of space even in economy. It just makes the whole flight experience wonderful. I felt my legs had a lot of space to move around and being “5’9” this is starting to become very rare these days. I even noticed that the windows were slightly larger and more angled. This meant that everyone in my row could look out, great for watching the sunset.

2. Inflight Camera view

(Watching your flight take off from your seat is rather exciting!)

Ever wanted to see what the pilot is looking at during take off? Now you can with the inbuilt camera on the Wing. Taking off has never been so exciting, you actually get a bit of a buzz from it. What’s normally a Boring process has turned into a Roller coaster experience, enjoy!

3. Snack Bar

(Endless amounts of snacks and drinks without having to worry the cabin crew, perfect!)

I hate bugging the friendly cabin crew with endless requests for more drinks and snacks. What I love about the A380, even in Economy they have a little chill out area at the back of the aircraft with a free for all snack bar. Yep, I filled my pockets up to the brim and snacked to my heart’s content, what a wonderful idea. Make sure you don’t miss it on your next flight!

4. Entertainment system

Normally an inflight entertainment system is either very limiting or hard to navigate around. Not the case on Qantas A380 as they have installed the latest systems with easy to use touch screen navigation. It’s very rate That I leave videos still to watch, but with the endless selection on offer you leave wanting to see more.

5. Great Price for Backpackers

(The more seats, the cheaper the route!)

It’s come at no additional cost to fly on the A380 and as it enhanced my flying experience, I can only say it’s great value for money. As its a larger aircraft they are able to fly more passengers, but incorporate a more spacious full design allowing the experience to be better than most aircraft currently flying. It’s a win win for backpackers using RTW tickets or looking for more affordable long haul routes.

Have you flown on the A380? Did you like your experience too? Post your response below in the comment section and share your experience, thank you.
