Hanging out With Locals is not the first thing that springs to mind when thinking of things to do in Amsterdam, the Netherlands capital city.
There is no place on the planet quite like Amsterdam and many visitors are distracted by its other endless possibilities.
But before we get started, This is not another blog post about why you should rent a bike, explore the canals or hang out in the museum’s instead.
This is a blog post about an alternative option I’ve recently discovered how to get to the heart of Amsterdam culture and meet the locals.
I’m a big fan of the growing share economy movement currently taking place online.
I feel it’s a great tool to help improve and enhance your very own personal travel experiences.
One of those such websites I personally use on my trips has just expanded and launched in Amsterdam.
Sound exciting? Let me introduce you to:
With Locals, a new addition to the city of Amsterdam.
The website offers a wide selection of local connections such as guided tours or simply cooking a meal with a local family in their home.
The opportunities are endless and you can unlock many different experiences With Locals.
Having With Locals in Amsterdam is a match made in heaven.
Often in many big major European Cities, even though they are tourist friendly it’s hard to locate the real authentic local feel of the cities.
With Locals aims to always break down that barrier and connect visitors with locals who are offering unique local experiences.
When it comes to Amsterdam many tourists have been there, done that and got the T-shirt. With Locals aims to offer a unique window into a different side of Amsterdam through connecting locals.
There is much more to the Netherlands than just Amsterdam and many visitors to Holland suffer the fate of never voyaging outside of the capital city and that’s a great shame.
But now With Locals have arrived in town this opens an opportunity to head straight into the heart of Dutch Culture without having to leave the city.
An alternative experience: Enjoy Amsterdam with Locals at home
Travel is all about discovering those unique moments that you will remember for a lifetime and for many travellers having a local to unlock that moment is the best way to go about it.
Home is where the heart is and this is especially true when it comes to the Netherlands.
Dutchies feel themselves at home and often very happy to open up their culture through a dish or two.
With Locals Dutch dining experience
With locals offer a wide selection of local Amsterdam residences who are looking to adopt a visitor and invite them over to join for Dinner that evening.
In Holland, this is very common to welcome guest to the table as the Dutch prefer to cook with bigger groups as it adds more atmosphere.
Dinner time is central to Dutch cooking as it’s a time to chat with family.
If you wish to try the local Dutch food this is also something that’s hard to track down unless you go to a local home.
Of course, you can find a Dutch Snack van and eat away to your heart’s content with endless amounts of mayo! But Real local Dutch food is homely food and the home is the best place to find it.
When I think back to my time in The Netherlands its often the times I’ve spent with Dutchies in the kitchen that spring to mind. A glass of wine, some good cooking and most importantly a good conversation.
If there is one thing I’ve learned most about the Dutchies is there are the most fantastic dinner companions to have around.
This can end up forming the basis of endless hours of entertaining conversation and accompanied by some local food and drink forms the basis of a lovely evening.
Be sure to try out With Locals on your next visit to Amsterdam
When I think back to the most memorable parts of my personal travel its often moments, I’ve shared with locals that have stood out the most.
With locals is not only about cooking and food you can also find a whole host of local guides willing to walk around with you and show you the city as well as painting classes and personal boat trips, endless possibilities with locals.
Why not on your next visit to Amsterdam experience the true Dutch way of life through cooking with locals.
