15 Travel iPhone Apps I could simply not travel without

Travel iPhone apps have changed the way we travel, having an iPhone in your pocket is a powerful tool and will help you to travel better and smarter.

Thank you travel iPhone App developers of the world, for making our travels just that little bit more enjoyable.

Here is a list of 15 travel iPhone Apps I currently use most, enjoy!

Flightboard

Instantly with one click you can search, find and locate any flight board anywhere around the world. This has saved my bacon many times when flying. Either you’re too lazy or you can’t locate a flight board at the airport, simply use this app and you wont have to move at all (carry on enjoying your morning coffee at the cafe!). it’s constantly kept up to date and will send you an alarm regarding unpredicted delays or cancellations. Used this app in multiple airports and blown away by how accurate this app is.

VPN Express

VPN Express

Finally, the days of easy VPN on your mobile devices is here! With one easy in-app swipe you can stream and enjoy a wide selection of content from your home country.

Content walls are a thing of the past and you can even use your streaming apps from home, which makes the whole experience so easy you wonder why you have never used this app in the first place.

I’ve used this a lot to watch iPlayer and watch football games from the road, the fact you don’t have to launch up your laptop and can simply stream from your mobile device in the airport makes it a great time killer with flight delays when an airport has wifi.

For more information about streaming abroad and VPN you can read my blog all about it: Here

Out of all the flight search websites I have on my phone, this is the one I enjoy the most using. It’s easy to use and jump between cheaper alternative dates. I’ve booked long haul flights on this app and didn’t face any problems at all, simple and extremely easy to use. It’s just been designed from the ground up to work on a smart phone and I like that a lot.

Tripadvisor

The king of travel reviews on the web and because so many people are using it, then you can always find at least two or three reviews pretty much about everything. I don’t take the reviews to heart, but they can be helpful in times of doubt, it’s just a handy app to have if you quickly want to look up a place and judge its authenticity.

Holiday Pirate

Just before I head to twitter in the morning I check out the daily deals on Holiday Pirate. If any airline or tourism website is having technical difficulties or a crazy travel deal, be sure to find it reported on Holiday Pirate first before anywhere else. For this reason it’s one of my most used apps. Flights are quickly taken down if there is an issue so checking it once every morning has saved me a fortune when booking big long haul flights. Make sure you keep up-to-date and in the loop too with this app.

Seat Guru

I’m not a pilot, Cabin crew or aviation buff to know the exact layout of every single aircraft on this planet. This app, however, does and like me you’re willing to spend 10 minutes locating where the best seat available on the flight is then this is the perfect app for you. It’s Easy to use and all you need is the flight number and airline to locate the best seat. I’ve selected some top notch seats using this method and its amazing how being a smart traveller can really make a difference to a flight experience. Lots of reviews, tips and hints from fellow travellers on where to sit better on each flight.

Hostel World

Often I’m lazy and forget to book a hostel and book a place before taking off. This app is perfect for quickly booking a place on the go. Cuts out all the fluff that the website has and allows you to book your next place to stay simply and easily. Perfect for those backpacking multi destination trips when you want to remain flexible.

Tripit

I used to print out everything, now with Tripit, it’s a thing of the past, safely secures all my flight and hotel booking reservations on one app. Best of all, I don’t even need to forward any emails it just scans my inbox and captures the details all ready for me. Now if that isn’t service I have no idea what is. Best of all its linked to my Twitter and Facebook Page and sends updates on my flight progress. This means my family can keep up-to-date with where I go and does this all automatically so I don’t have to worry about them worrying as they know That my flight has taken off and landed. If they need to find out where I’m staying I have given them around the clock access to the account so they can quickly gain phone numbers of where I’m staying in case of an emergency. The best thing about the app is it does everything for me without any need to gain internet access and this saves be a lot of time. Before I would always have to phone/text or email details and it got too much being constantly on the road. The app is also handy for checking up on check in times and flight information, it’s just a breeze to use and that’s why it will always be one of my go to travel tools when on the road. You can also ugrade to the Premuim package which offers cancelation support if your flight gets stuck you get direct support to get you travelling again, very handy in times of need.

Rome2Rio

Even as an avid traveller how should I know every exact route A to B all around the world? This app has it all on one easy to use application. Want to find out how to reach a Greek island? It will have the cost and even a time schedule, it’s truly mind blowing and for that reason, you should keep it on your phone at all times, very handy indeed. You can even do a random adventure with it which makes it a lot of fun if your board. Just put where you are and any random location, then the app will show you how to do it, simple and fun!

When dealing with multiple currencies this app is a pure joy to use. Before you depart on your trip you can already pre-set the currencies you will use then it will update the current going currency prices to use at another point of time if you’re stuck without any wifi connection. This has come in handy so many times that I’ve always been smart with knowing what the current exchange deal is. It’s hard to trust money exchange quotes, but when you have it on your app you can make a better judgement. Its offline function allows you to put in as many denominations as you wish so you can work out exactly what you wish to withdraw, ideal for travelling and always used when needed. Especially handy when you’re shopping and want to quickly do a price match on how much it costs, very easy to use.

Couchsurfing

Recently updated I have to say I do Like the new layout, the first version was a bit of a test pilot but last week the relaunch has really shaped up and very easy to use. So next time you are searching for a Couchsurfer to host you try out the app and see what you think, helpful when you’re on the move.

Train Time

This is the British example, but multiple examples of these types of apps can be found all over the world based on the different locations. It seeks and finds the routes you looking at taking and tells you the time and platform that you need in order to take your trip. Just easy to use and makes travelling a breeze.

Yelp

One of the oldest app’s on the market, but still just as useful today. Simply say what you’re looking for anD where you are, then it will find what you need based off users reviews. pretty cool and pretty simply if your looking for something special if your no longer interested in wondering around yourself and getting lost for fun.

Word Lens

Simply point the app at any sign in another language and it will translate it onto the actual sign you are looking at in English. The app is like pure witchcraft, I don’t get it or why it works, but it does! Get used to it and use it, great fun and helps a lot in those confusing moments of Russia reading. At the moment its completely free! (all the languages used to be expensive so download them all now to use at another time)

Save yourself buying a guidebook and download this app for free, you can save and store the location information your going to for offline use, which makes it great to read on the plane before you land. Be travel smart and up-to-date with the locations you’re going to in order to avoid scams and get up to date on customs. Handy app to have on your phone and best of all its free and informative.

The wonderful thing about technology is how its making travel more easier. I’ve enjoyed seeing the development and progress of how it all evolved and every travel iphone app that I pick, just keeps on making each future trip easier and enjoyable.

Thank you for reading my latest blog post all about which travel iPhone apps I use.
