Prague airport tour and scenic flight
Got some time to pass at Prague Airport? Why not take a guided tour of Prague airport or head on a scenic flight over surrounding Prague.
This is one for the aviation geeks who always wanted to see what goes on behind the scenes at an airport. At Prague Airport, you have a number of different tours to choose from.
You can even book yourself onto a scenic private flight that will take you over Prague airport and the surrounding region of Prague.
I had some time on my hands on a recent visit to the Czech Republic and wanted to share with you my experience of exploring Prague Airport on a tour and scenic flight.
Go behind the scenes at Prague Airport
Jump on a Prague Airport tour and go behind the scenes to see what makes an airport tick.
Rather than rushing to your flight gate, take half a day before your flight to explore the inner operations and workings of one of Czech Republics busiest airports.
Try the Prague Airport private check in service
Want to travel in style? Once you’ve been on your Prague airport tour and are ready to depart, why not try out the new Prague airport private check in service.
Let someone else take care of your check in and baggage whilst you relax in the comfort of the newly opened Raiffeisenbank Lounge. When your tickets and passport are returned, use your very own private dedicated security line.
Travel with ease and style with Prague Airport’s new private Check in Service. For costs and availability, take a look here.
Look behind the scene at baggage handling
Always wanted to know what happens to your bag once you’ve checked it in?
Here in the baggage handling section of Prague airport you will see the whole operation come to life as bags are sorted onto a selection of conveyer belts ready to go on board the aircraft.
Also, you will see all the trolley carts as the bags arrive from land flights and get sorted onto arrival belts.
It’s all fast, effective and sufficient. Wonderful to see it first hand as it all works and comes to life.
A look at the airport fire station
Fun fact, Prague airport has the most well-equipped and advanced fire station in the whole of the Czech Republic.
If you want to see how the airport handles situations quickly and effectively, this is a great spot to have a look at the fire station equipment.
Here you can check out the brand new Austrian-built Panther fire truck that is quick and effective with almost a pool-sized amount of water aboard to tackle any number of situations in record time.
The Operations Center at Prague Airport
This area of Prague airport is pretty cool to have a look around behind the scenes. The operations centre is where airport staff communicate with the incoming and outgoing flights to work out where to park them at the airport.
Prague airport aims to expand to an additional runway and terminal over the coming years, so I’m sure this job will become more demanding as they aim to expand the airport.
Watch a take off and landing close to the runway
On the Prague airport tour bus you can get up closer to the runway and see flights as they take off and land.
It’s a wonderful experience being closer to the action and seeing these incredible aircrafts kick into gear and take off into the sky.
Scenic flight around the Prague region
If you like, you can book a private scenic flight around Prague airport and the surrounding region which operates from Terminal 3.
I went with Blue Sky Aviation which you can book tickets for online if you wish to do the same. The journey time was 20 minutes altogether, and flying depends on the weather conditions on the day.
Fly over Karlsteyn Castle
On my 20 minute scenic flight we went over Karlsteyn Castle, which was a wonderful sight to see from the sky and is located close to Prague Airport.
It was also wonderful to see the airport operations from high above as well, especially as you come in to land. If you watch my video below you can get a better idea of the experience.
Prague Airport Tours
Prague airport tours are open for the general public and you can book your tour online in advance.
If you know that you will have some time free in advance to explore Prague Airport be sure to make a booking.
Go behind the scenes and have a look at how the airport works. You have loads of different tour options to choose from and you can have a look at the list here.
The scenic flight can be booked through Blue Sky Aviation and can be booked in conjunction with an airport tour depending on how much time you have.
Tours start from Terminal 3 which is usually used for private flights, and the public bus 119 stops off here also. Be sure to bring along your passport and leave any liquids behind as you will go through airport security just like you was getting a flight at the airport.
