Over the many years of travelling I’ve picked up quite a few money saving tips. When you’re booking trips all year round, you learn all the insider tips and the best companies to book with.
Rather than keep all of this info to myself, I want to share these tips with you that could help you save big on your next travelling tip.
Many people fall at the first hurdle and book with the first website they see. Spend some time shopping around and you could be in for a surprise. The way I see it, you could easily save money with just a little bit of research.
Save your hard earned cash at the booking stage and enjoy it while on your holiday instead. I’ve written this list of my top 5 money saving tips for you so you can get the most out of your holiday savings.
Here are my top 5 favourite tips for saving money when booking holidays:
1. Check out Groupon for travel saving deals
Groupon is a great way to uncover some of the deals and travel savings. Many travel companies use Groupon to advertise some of their resorts and accommodation options.
Customers can take their pick of whatever happens to be on offer that week and unlock wonderful savings on particular products. Expedia is a great example – this established booking platform has many travel saving deals on Groupon.
There are 24-hour deals, 40% off various hotels, and loads of last minute deals. Be sure to check out Groupon’s latest offers and see what you could save on your next adventure.
2. Sign up to HolidayPirates to keep an eye out for error fares
I love checking out HolidayPirates to discover discounted and mistake flight prices. They keep an eye out for the best deals that have been input mistakenly by airlines and travel booking agencies so you can book them for yourself.
You’ve got to just keep an eye out and be ready to snap up a bargain when the time comes. Error fares appear when the airline makes a mistake or a technical error on flight prices, so you can grab that bargain price until it’s fixed. It’s truly great for those who love a bargain and spontaneity.
Having HolidayPirates keep an eye out for these deals for you means the hunt is a lot less time-consuming, so you can be alerted once those fast deals come along.
3. Use SeatGuru to pick your best seat in Economy class
Did you know that many airlines will let you select your seat free of charge around 24 hours before your flight online?
I always check out SeatGuru to look up my exact flight and aircraft model, and work out where the best possible place to sit would be.
You can find many tips on the website, such as which seats recline, or if your seat is too close to the toilet and is likely to be noisy throughout the flight (this can be a terrible ordeal if you’re not much of a deep sleeper).
Save on seat selection by using this tool to your advantage. This also means you can check in online ahead of time and beat the queues if you’re travelling with hand luggage only. Awesome!
4. Book your activities through GetYourGuide
(Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Bangkok. A local tour I booked for a discount through GetYourGuide.)
Perfect for those do-it-yourself travellers, GetYourGuide offers top attractions around the world at discount rates and good value for money.
GetYourGuide connects you with real locals who offer guided tours, local experiences and attraction tickets making it easier to plan your next adventure holiday. It’s really a wonderful way to see a new country, having someone who knows all the best places to go to at your side.
Booking direct allows you to make a nice saving on your next trip, and you’re also able to be reassured by the quality due to the top notch review system they have before you book.
5. Grab yourself a Monzo card
I was first told about Monzo card through a friend. Now I wouldn’t travel without one. My handy Monzo card has got me out of so many bank card dramas when travelling, and it solves all your travel money exchange problems too.
Monzo is regularly hailed as one of the best pre-paid currency cards for travellers thanks to its fee-free transactions and easy overseas cash withdrawals.
The online app you use to manage your Monzo card is a wonderful solution for keeping an eye on the little added extras travellers normally spend. Be sure to get yours today and travel stress-free knowing you’re getting a good deal on your travel money.
6. Bonus tip: Grab a Priority Pass to access airport lounges
My list is not quite over yet! I have one bonus tip I’d like to share with you, and honestly it’s one of my favourites. Sign up for a Priority Pass online, and once you have it you can access a large database of airport lounges for very affordable prices. This really is perfect for those who travel frequently and have lots of time to kill at airports.
Normally I find that the regular shops in airports sell drinks, newspapers and meals for extremely high prices, which means you’re getting ripped off before you even get on the plane. Once you calculate these costs and offset them against the price of the Priority Pass, you could be saving big by accessing a lounge next time you’re at an airport.
You get to enjoy unlimited food and drink as well as dedicated Wi-Fi, working areas, sleeping areas, and even sometimes use of a shower. Be sure to check out Priority Pass if you want to upgrade the way you spend your time at the airport.
Thank you for reading my blog post about saving online on your next travel adventure. Have a wonderful time on your next trip and enjoy the money you’ve saved.
