It’s not often that I get excited about day packs, but there is something rather special about the Osprey Arcane Large Day.
After a good few months of testing the Arcane Large Day, it’s still my everyday go-to day pack.
I have to admit that in the past I have enjoyed larger loader day packs, but since travel has stopped for this moment in time I’ve enjoyed the luxury of downgrading my gear to a lighter load on my walks and limiting the need to carry a large backpack.
But that’s not the main reason why I’m raving about the Osprey Arcane Large Day. Made of 100% recycled, durable fabrics and long-lasting metal componentry, it’s also a sustainable choice, as well as a stylish one too.
Here is my gear review about how I’ve been getting on with the Osprey Arcane Large Day.
Highlights from my Osprey Arcane Large Day experience
I love the look and design of the Osprey Arcane Large Day; it’s compact in size and sleek in composition, and it looks great when you’re out and about.
Be that an urban environment or a hiking trail outdoors, it’s rather practical and a great all-round backpack for day trips or weekend escapes.
It also perfectly transforms into a mobile office when you fancy making a B-line to a café; with its internal organisation pockets, laptop sleeve and flask holder you can pack up in no time and be on your way if you fancy being mobile for the day. It’s a lovely bit of kit to have on hand for those last-minute escapes.
One aspect that I love about the Osprey Arcane Large Day is how incredibly comfortable it is to wear as it has a well ventilated padded back support.
When the backpack was fully loaded, I found it a joy to wear. It’s designed perfectly for long-distance walks.
Despite its small 20-litre capacity, you can pack a lot into this small space – it’s an all-round day pack with a perfect design.
Hand luggage has become smaller these days on budget airlines
One of the biggest reasons for looking into a smaller day pack has been the recent restrictions on hand luggage from a few European budget airlines.
Now, most passengers travelling around Europe can only take a small personal bag into the cabin free of charge.
Your bag must not measure more than 23cm x 20cm x 40cm, which doesn’t leave you with much space as it’s pretty much the size of a laptop bag.
With these dimensions in mind, the Osprey Arcane Large Day (45cm L / 30cm W / 22cm D) just about passes the measurements and is up for the challenge.
But for a weekend escape, this can be a perfect choice for a lighter load.
Normally I would load up my cabin luggage to the max to avoid having to pay for checked baggage, and I’ve enjoyed this lifestyle for some time. Especially when travelling long-haul, it’s a light feeling to travel with just the bare essentials.
For a European weekend escape, you can reduce your load dramatically and plan for the few days ahead by packing carefully into the Osprey Arcane Large Day. It solves the issue of having to pay for cabin luggage on these European airlines.
