I will also be heading out on an unforgettable journey through the mountains of the Isthmus, where nature, culture, and history intertwine to create an adventure like no other.
Please stay tuned for more parts of our exploration as we continue to find the hidden treasures of Panama.

Here is my travel blog guide to exploring Panama:
Discovering Colón’s Vibrant Market
Our journey begins at the bustling Colón Public Market, where the heart of Caribbean gastronomy beats.
Here, you’ll immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere and learn about the unique ingredients that define Panama’s local cuisine.
Engage with the friendly locals and experience the warmth and hospitality Colón is known for.
The highlight for me has to be buying the freshly made bottled hot sauce, which has a beautiful kick and adds a nice flavour to your Panamanian dishes.
It is also a great spot to pick up a bag of husked coconut to add to your rice, which is a common practice in Panama. One bag of coconut and one bag of rice is the way to go.
A Glimpse of the Panama Canal
As we make our way to the community of Achiote, we’ll pass by the iconic Panama Canal.
This engineering marvel is a testament to human ingenuity and a must-see landmark that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
If you have time, I highly recommend visiting the Panama Canal visitor centre. It has a 360-degree video display generated by Morgan Freeman that tells the story of the Panama Canal.
Cooking Culinary Delights with the Locals in Achiote
In Achiote, we had the opportunity to dive into a hands-on Caribbean gastronomic experience.
Under the guidance of the talented women of the Achiote community, we prepared our meals using fresh, local products at the Cascá community restaurant.
Preparing fresh hot sauce and cooking empanadas on the open fire.
This is more than just a cooking class; it’s a cultural exchange that brings you closer to the heart of Caribbean life.
The lunch that was prepared for us was fantastic. You could taste how incredible all the fresh ingredients from the local market were.

Next, we transfer to the Gallo dock for a tour of the Chagres River at Costa Abajo de Colón.
This river tour offers a chance to appreciate the region’s rich wildlife and birdlife.
As we navigate the river, you’ll feel like a pirate exploring uncharted waters, culminating in a breathtaking view of the San Lorenzo del Real del Chagres Castle.
No luck finding any hidden lost pirate treasures. I’ll keep looking!
