Beer Spa Czech Republic – a walk-through of my experience
If you visit the Czech Republic you have to check out a beer spa. I’m a massive fan of beer and my favourite beer happens to be located in the Czech Republic. It’s the home of many different types of beer such as Budweiser and Pilsner.
So, if you love beer that much, why not take a bath in a whole tub full of beer! That’s pretty much the whole experience of a beer spa.
After shopping around the Czech Republic, I found that the price of a beer spa in Prague costs around £100 for two people sharing and £70 for one person.
This usually includes a private space, a rest area and a tap of unlimited Czech beer for around one hour. I then went to Ostrava and noticed the price was around £70 for two people.
I quickly learned like many activities in Prague, it’s always a lot more affordable to travel outside of the popular capital city to some of the many more rural regions around the Czech Republic. You can find real value travelling further afield from Prague.
This is what took me to the Region of Liberec, which is the second smallest region in the Czech Republic and only an hour driving time from Prague.
Beer Spa at Novosad and Son glass works and brewery
Harrachov is a popular ski town in the Region of Liberec and is also a popular hiking location in the summer time.
One of the biggest visitor attractions in Harrachov is the Novosad and Son glass works and brewery. You can also find a hotel here with a beer spa.
This traditional handmade producer of luxurious crystal stemware, giftware and chandeliers have been made here since 1712, making it the oldest still-working glassworks in the historic Bohemia region with lots of history and tradition to be discovered.
The microbrewery at Novosad
The microbrewery and restaurant at Novosad was built in 2002 directly next to the melting house of the glass-factory.
Mostly to increase visitor numbers, and to offer something unique at the glass work.
The heat created from the glass works furnace created a hot environment for the glass makers, so the owner had the idea to brew beer on the site to help cool the workers down during the hot days.
Each worker is allowed up to 5 glasses per a day.
What a nice way to create and make beautiful glass work with a tasty pint of beer in hand to keep you cool.
The guests of the restaurant can watch the glassblowers, while drinking the local draught beer and enjoying the tasty food menu on offer as well.
The beer spa therapy will give you an unforgettable experience, regenerating your skin and rejuvenating both your body and mind.
The Novosad beer spa experience
So, now you know the history of glass making in the region of Liberec, the town of Harrachov, how beer is connected to glassblowers, and why you will find a beer spa located here.
It’s simply not a random coincidence and I hope you find some time to take a tour of the glass factory, stay at the hotel, enjoy the restaurant and a beer at the microbrewery.
Be sure to enjoy the endless hiking opportunities that the town of Harrachov has in the summer time or even skiing in the winter time. So much on offer here for you to explore.
Now that’s all clear, lets talk about my beer spa, it was for sure an eventful experience.
Time for a beer spa in the Czech Republic
As I walked into the beer spa entrance door, I was met by a local lady who didn’t speak a word of English, which for me adds more of a fun element to the whole experience.
She was in fact the manager of the beer spa and would take care of the whole experience.
She swiftly informed me that all clothes must be removed and stored in the locker and then she handed me a bed sheet. Not a towel, but a bed sheet. All I had to protect my modesty was a Roman toga sheet.
Memories of student parties started to flood back and it all kicked in that I was about to bathe in a whole tub of beer.
After a quick shower and sorting out my toga knot, I was ready for my beer tub.
I was escorted from this point into a private room which had a beer keg table and a tap of beer connected to the wall started to fill up the tub. My first thought was how could I install such a tap in my house, wouldn’t that be a wonderful thing to have.
The beer bath procedure is prepared in a rehabilitative tub filled with natural, untreated mountain water (36°C) mixed with 5 litres of light and 5 litres of dark unfiltered non-pasteurised yeast beer, combined with crushed hops.
Then the spa manager brought in a pint of beer from the tap outside and placed it onto the keg table and closed the door behind her with a sort of brief mention of a Czech word which I think was along the lines of something like “enjoy”.
At that moment in time it finally hit me that I was about to jump into a bath full of beer.
Toga off, it was time to submerge.
First of all I want to highlight at this point that it wasn’t in fact drinkable beer. It’s more the mash and ingredients that you would find in a beer. So yes, you can make beer with it, but it’s not as if you’re bathing in sticky carbonated liquid. It’s all the healthy ingredients that make beer to form some sort of soothing bath mixture.
Be sure to top up the bath with hot water to create a more relaxing environment.
Don’t forget to drink beer whilst bathing in beer, they both work hand in hand and create a lovely beer spa experience.
After 30 minutes and a couple of beers later, it’s time to relax and lay down for 30 minutes. I’m not sure if both go hand in hand or if they run out of ideas on how to create a one hour beer spa experience, but it was nice to take some time for 30 minutes to just rest after the beer bath.
Overall, I did find the experience pleasantly relaxing and a good laugh too. Like, where in the world do you bathe in a whole tub of beer! It was rather crazy.
Fun fact, you will be still smelling of beer the next day as you sweat out the remaining beer throughout the day. How fun.
