Last night I hosted an event to showcase a handful of cultures from around the world at my exchange University of Vaasa. I organized the event along with a team put together by the business factory which is like a jelly meeting hub club that is held once a week.
It was great fun to put together and I loved how all the countries we showcased at the event come together really well. We had Wales which I did along with Hungary and Vietnam. I enjoy the events which allow people to come together and network along with learning something new in a social environment.
I just booked a one way ticket to Ho Chi Minh City for around £22 with AirAsia and i was debating on if I should take it or not, so I was really happy when Vietnam was interested in doing a presentation at the event.
Allot of people has told me its a scary difficult country to travel around and along with reading Nomadic Matts blog on Vietnam, who I like to read time to time I was having mixed opinions on if I should go or not?
But listening to the Vietnamese presentation changed my mind completely and I’m raring to go on adventure to these interesting lands. Here are some of the reasons I want to stop off in Vietnam first on my first trip to South East Asia:
• First experience
• Cheap and affordable
The visa is one of the main reasons as its the only place (being British) that I will need to get an advance visa in South East Asia and this is what puts many people off visiting on a multi backpacking trip in the first place. But I have a set date so one quick stop at the embassy in London and its sorted for a very small fee.
The first experience is very important as I like to build it up and most people visit Thailand or China first before Vietnam and from what I have read as ended up being a bit of a disappointment, but I feel that going here first might help this.
I have discovered it’s also a very cheap destination and coming from Finland this would really help me out so I hope to spend a large amount of my time here backpacking and travelling around and give a few weeks to the rest of South East Asia.
From the presentation it has really opened me up to a new possibility and giving me a different viewing point of Vietnam. Now I’m more than ever ready to visit this country rather than being a little put of and I really can’t wait to visit now.
Not long till I start packing now, Vietnam here I come!
