I stumbled across a great website on the web called the burning house poject. Its a fantastic idea! the concept is your house is on fire and you can only grab whats most important to you and let the rest all burn away.
For travellers its a little different as we don’t have a house that can set on fire, nore do we have allot of stuff we highly value.
But We do have a backpack full of personal items we can’t live without, its like a packed down micro version of what we cherish most.
Here is what I would grab from my bag if my hostel dorm room set on fire:

I’ve managed to keep a minimlist approach to Packing but these items I adore the most.
Thinking about it I don’t own allot of stuff.
Most of my valued possessions are my travelling memories and experiences and luckily all my captured memories have been backed up online and two hard drives in safe locations just in case(Can never back up to much).
I love my Mac air, sometimes i just look at it as its so beautiful designed, I hardly leave it behind.
I’m a moleskine geek and even though my 2012 editions are rather fresh I feel they have a legacy to join the master collection once they retire, I’m picking them up.
My Passport! With out it i feel it takes some freedom away from me and plus all the aggro of getting a new one, Don’t want to go down that road again. But most importantly the stamps I’ve been collecting, they are like my Pokemon cards.
Bose headphones, I wouldn’t normally spend allot of money on a pair of headphones but good quality audio is important and until I get a house were I can rig up a surround system these are my personal sound system and they are worth the investment, can’t just let them go.
Amazon Kindle has changed my life with regards to reading, its now my whole books shelve in my pockets after I sold all my books on eBay to pay for the E-Book version. pretty smart.
